CA$H MAINE
Prepare and file your federal and state income taxes for free. Save your hard earned money this year by filing your income taxes at a CA$H Maine free tax preparation site or file for free online.
CA$H Maine is a collaboration of statewide coalitions to help low and moderate income Mainers find ways to make the most of their money. CA$H Maine offers free tax preparation to qualified individuals and families during the tax season, as well as information about free and low-cost money saving resources, including funding higher education for you or your children.
- Option 1: File for free in person with an IRS-certified volunteer tax preparer. To find a free tax preparation event or site near you, dial 211 or text your zip code to 898-211. A trained 211 Specialist will provide contact information. You can also find tax preparation sites by searching in the 211 Maine Resource Directory by clicking “Search our Directory” on the 211 Maine homepage. To qualify, household income should be less than $54,000. All consumers should call the tax site to find out what documents are needed for tax preparation. ADA and interpreter accommodations are available upon request.
- Option 2: File for free online. Go to myfreetaxes.com. To qualify, household income should be less than $66,000. Use of this website requires a valid email address.
AARP
AARP provides confidential free tax preparation, answers tax questions, and files electronic forms. Help is available for those who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit.
AARP sites are operational through April 15 and arrangements can be made to assist individuals with disabilities.
Dial 211 Maine, text your zip code to 898-211, or visit AARP Tax-Aide Locator to find a tax preparation site nearest to your location.
Consumers can search the Tax-Aide Locator by address or county. The name of the site, address, phone number, site schedule, handicap access, information on making an appointment, and other relevant information is included in the search results.
